Kori Chamberlain
Pre-Production and Planning for a Computer Game.

Type of Production
Type of Production is making a game which is thought about what it will be on (Phone/Xbox).
Steam is a website that you can download video game content and it allows you to run games on it as well. Steam is a good website that has a range of games on offer for you to buy or get for free. By allowing games to run on its server its bring in more money for steam. The website is available to those that have a PC, Mac, IOS, Android etc. Which shows that steam is a popular digital game store and server.
In my game it was originally thought to be a phone app which can be played on Android and IOS devices. The game seems to be a typical platform jumper which is usually seen on the phone. This is more suitable to be on the phone because of the low amount of pixels and because its more suitable.

Finance
Financing a business without borrowing or issuing shares. In this situation startup capital is required to run the business until profits can underpin the outgoings of the business.
The advantages are that the control is not given to share holders, and their opinion does therefore not have to be taken into account in relation to business decisions
And the business would gain more money because other companies are not involved
A disadvantage are that sufficient capital may not be available to reach desired economics of scale, and because of the large capital often required to start a business, few totally self-financing
Some business that self-finance are independent and if done correctly could be a good profit for the worker/designer.
Financing is used to fund your development within the game before its sold. The game that im creating could be self financed, because its a simple game design which wouldn't require much help, which would mean more of a profit. On the other hand lending money from other companies could help with the development of the game yet the profit of the game would be shared.

Time constraints
Time Constraints are essential to game development, Constraints takes the role of the Theme, time, team and tools.
The time constraints is when say a game should be finished within (48 hours) the development team would create an idea and stick to it, without changing your mind.
My game would benefit to have time to be made around that time, to push the development team to finish it. My game is simple and complex which would make it much easier to finish within those requested times.

Facilities materials
(Concept art, internet, assets etc)
Gaming industries need materials to make products. The products need to have high quality which is why a separate company is involved. My game would also need materials to give the best quality my game can get. every company that advertises something, needs facilities materials.

Contributors
Contributors are those people that contribute to either the designing, or the code. It could also be for voice actors or people that are known for their talent for coding, sounds etc. Contributors don't get paid and are there for the experience. this is good for the contributor because it looks good on a CV and the company gets to develop a game without paying the contributors (Sometimes).
Games that are risks and are new of its kind, would use this tactic the most to save money. Companies want a good profit from the game, which would mean the companies allowing people to learn and develop games for free of charge. Contributors are used usually to improve the game to what it was, with maybe a better voice actor or a presenter the game would have an effect towards it. This is usually found in games that have had bad feedback on something, for example an accent can be annoying for those playing it, which might make the company bring in a different contributor.

Codes of Practice.
(Legal-Copyright, Health and safety, insurance etc)
This is when the gaming industries have to think about when designing and developing a game. For starters, already created sprites or other uses for the game could be copyrighted which would result into you having to pay a high amount of money for that particular thing. This also considers the development team for there health and safety and how its important to keep the hours fair and to keep everyone safe. The insurance is known for helping people that have had a problem at work which is needs to be known in all work places.
My design and development of the game would have to be mine, sometimes games bring in other work that actually haven't been made by themselves and have gave permission for the use of the copyrighted image. If so the creator would have to give thanks to the person that gave them the image and would have to show there name in the credits or somewhere within the game.

Personnel:
Size of Team
In different types of games the size of the group depends on how much stuff like editing is needed. Games like GTA 5 and Skyrim are games that had a big amount of developers working on there games because of the quality and how big the game is overall. Games need to meet requirements which are deadlines and the overall quality, this effects the amount of developers on one game.
In the teams they have:
An Animator
Assistant Producer
Audio Engineer
Creative director
External Producer
Game Designer
Game Programmer
Game Artist
Lead Artist
Lead Programmer
Level Editor
Marketing Executive
My game wouldn't need a big team as the code and the design of the game is complex. The company doesn't want to spend money on people that are not needed which would result in having a much smaller group for this game.
Games that have more money gone into them, will have more than one of these developers. Usually when needed more they bring in one or two more in for that section of the games development. These are examples on what the type of developer does.
The Animator:
The Animator is responsible for the movement and the function of the game. This developer uses all that the software can give them when it comes to the animations.
Assistant Producer
The Assistant producer is responsible for keeping watch on the development team and making sure it has good enough quality before publishing,
Audio Engineer
The Audio Engineer is responsible for the soundtrack, Including the music,Sound effects, character voices and ambient effects.
Creative Director
Creative directors are responsible for the overall look and feel for the game, They also have to check if the soundtrack and the quality is okay for the feel of the game to be good.
External Producer
External producer is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of a game, while working externally from the development team. Its also to make sure that the game is advertised  as commercially as possible.
Game Designer
Devising what a game exists of how it plays, defining all the elements. They communicate this to the the art assets and the computer code.
Game Programmer
Designing and writing the computer games code, that runs and controls the game.
Game Artist
Creating the visual elements of a game i.e. Characters, objects vehicles and textures. They also create concept art and story boards during production.
Lead Artist
Lead artist is responsible for the overall look of the game. And devising the visual style and directing the production of all visual materials throughout the game.
Lead programmer.
Lead programmer is responsible for Leading all of the development team that are responsible for the code which runs and controls the game
Level Editor
Level editor is responsible for defining creating interactive architecture for a segment of a game.
Marketing executive
Marketing executive is responsible for promoting your employers products, or service ideas. They also want to make people aware of the product through t.v, radio and the press.

Skills and Experiences
All developers have different needed skills and experiences, Most of these developers above need A levels or higher education. Others like the idea of rewards being shown through the work you are applying for. For example a Market executive has to show confidence in their actions and for applying for local activity or achievements for doing something that involves being confident will make the company want you. Also wanting to be a "Lead" of a type of development, you would have to show your a leader through hard work in the company or by showing evidence that you are a good leader before and that the team would benefit by having them.

Availability
Availability is when a game is ready to bought and played. The game that im creating would be created at a similar paste to a normal phone app. The game is complex and has unlimited levels and scores which is simple to create and is found very popular in the market specially in the phone app store.

Costs
Each game comes with a price, some more than others. The game requires money to be put into the game to allow it to be further developed. My game would cost a smaller amount compared to most games. This game firstly, is a phone app which is low in cost in the first place. Second of all the game would have a small development team which would mean less money spent. And overall the game has smaller quality and is a gamble when its published because theirs not a automatic audience waiting for the game.

Teams or Crew CV's
The Team/Crew needs to have some good qualifications. For example a team Artist needs to have some sort of Education on fine art and some experience in the company before being being promoted. Another example is a marketing executive which would need some sort of reward or qualification that proves they are confident and are able to work with other people.
In my game the Team/Crew will at least need have minimum requirements when creating this game. The game could be created  using simple software and tools, as the target audience is below teens.

Game Maker
Game Maker Studio caters to entry-level novices and seasoned game development professionals equally, allowing them to create cross-platform games in record time and at a fraction of the cost of conventional tools!
In addition to making game development 80 percent faster than coding for native languages, developers can create fully functional prototypes in just a few hours, and a full game in just a matter of weeks.
Game Maker is usually used for platform games. This is a very easy and simple game design software, which doesn't need that much experience to produce a good design of a game.
My game will be created using GameMaker: Studio because the software is simple to use and the options available in this software are good for this 2D Platform game. The game uses simple functions like move left and right, which are needed in the game and a simple game maker that is easy to use and cheap to get, allows the me and other companies make a good profit. With new coders and designers being introduced to the company, GameMaker would be a idea for those that are new to designing.
